The Horsehead Nebula
This beautiful collection of dark & emission nebulae is located in the constellation of Orion, surrounding the supergiant binary star Alnitak. All being some 1,500 light years from earth.
The Horsehead itself (B33) is a dark cloud of dust, 2 light years from muzzle to mane and illuminated by the ionised hydrogen gas of IC434 behind it.
It is one of my favourite sights in the whole night sky.
