The Hyades

The Hyades is a beautiful open cluster of about 150 - 200 stars located in the constellation of Taurus. The cluster is named after the daughters of Atlas & Aethra, who were therefore half sisters to the Pleiades. Aldebaran or Alpha Tauri is the brightest star in Taurus, it is a mere 68 light years from Earth and about 40 times larger than our Sun. However Aldebaran is not associated with the cluster which is 150 light years away.
